Jaden Petrus is a Junior nursing major, sociology minor attending Howard University. Since the age of 12, Jaden’s affinity towards the medical field has expanded and strengthened. Particularly, the medical disparities between minorities and non-minorities that present themselves in health care environments have been a strong influence on her pursuit of becoming a nurse practitioner. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jaden not only strengthened her love for the field but also watched and participated in campaigning and voluntary efforts that brought attention to the housing crisis and displacement of many NY natives due to gentrification and unstable rent prices. With New York having one of the highest poverty rates in the country, housing and food insecurity is a major and overt issue that can be seen in popular areas like Times Square and even less populated areas around the state. Through exposure, traveling, and learning experiences, Jaden has continued to join efforts that not only acknowledge social injustice issues but also bring about reform and progress on a national level.
